One question that I’ve pondered recently is: Is salt important for a healthy diet? We’ve been told for decades that salt is bad for us, that it will cause high blood pressure and that we will have a heart attack if we consume too much salt. Well, all mammals require salt in their diet and we just so happen to be mammals!
Salt, an essential and seemingly unimportant ingredient in our culinary world, has played a significant role in human history and nutrition for millennia. Beyond its role as a flavour enhancer, salt, when used in moderation and of the highest quality, provides a multitude of benefits that contribute to our overall well-being. In this article, we will ask the question – is salt important for a healthy diet? We will also look at the importance of using quality salt and how it plays its part in our overall health and taste experiences.

Other mammals are known to walk for miles each day, just to be able to lick salt from a dried sea-bed and the like. But I’m not talking about table salt here!

Sodium, Magnesium and Potassium should be consumed in proportion – unlike crappy table salt (which has had most of the good stuff removed, leaving just a ton of sodium). By consuming quality Sea Salt or Pink Himalayan Rock Salt, you’ll ensure that you are getting the right proportion of minerals.

Big Tip: If you are dieting for competition (or dieting to lose weight), make sure to consume plenty of water and healthy salt. This will prevent you from feeling wiped out – which is normally due to loss of electrolytes and dehydration.
