Fruits that do not make you Fat
Unfortunately, the majority of fruit is unhealthy and it will contribute to making us fat. The fruit of today are hybrid fruits, that is they have been genetically modified to make them sweeter and therefore they contain more fructose (fruit sugar) and fructose is one of the worst sugars for the human body. When we eat sugar, we spike insulin and while insulin is high, we enter fat storage mode. The trick is to keep insulin low, because then we enter fat burning mode and if weight loss is your goal, keeping insulin low is key.
As we learn more facts over the years, I shudder to think that back in the eighties, I used to actually buy bags of fructose sugar to add to my tea, coffee and cereal. I did this because I was informed (by a famous bodybuilding magazine article) that sucrose (table sugar) was bad for us (which it is) and that fructose was a healthier, less refined option. How wrong I was!
Avocado is a Fruit?
Avocado is THE one perfect fruit for helping you to lose weight as it contains very low levels of sugar and is packed full of healthy fats and minerals. It is also a perfect substitute for bananas – they both contain potassium, but bananas are full of sugar. Avocado is also a perfect food to eat pre-workout and I have half of one each day.
What about Berries?
However, berries are a completely different proposition and most of them are very healthy ‘fruits’ to consider. The clue is – the more ‘tart’ the berries are, the healthier they are.
Don't take my word for it...
In the video below, Dr Berg talks about the ‘health’ benefits of fruit or should I say, the lack there of!
